Milwaukee is the midwest’s ultimate party town. During the summer months, every weekend features a music or ethnic festival along the fairgrounds lining the down-town lakefront area. Therefore, Milwaukee advertises itself as the "City of Festivals." The festi-val season is highlighted by Summerfest -- the largest free music festival in the world, Summer-fest attracts nearly one million visitors a year to its twelve music stages. Visitors pay at the gate and can attend any show in the park. Smaller festivals throughout the year celebrate Milwau-kee’s German, Native American, African-American, Italian, Irish, Asian and Polish heritage. Bastille Days, the city’s French festival, takes place downtown in the city’s Cathedral Square area.
